The Ontario Arts Council is getting another $50 million a year.
The agency that awards grants and services to Ontario-based artists and arts organizations currently receives $30 million a year from the province – but by 2021 that will increase to $80 million annually.
The Wynne government says the extra cash will allow the OAC to give more money to organizations such as North America’s largest documentary film festival “Hot Docs” – as well as The School of Dance in Ottawa.
Projects the OAC has previously funded include the Tony-award winning musical “Come From Away” and free shows highlighting Indigenous music by the group “A Tribe Called Red.”
Premier Kathleen Wynne says investing in the arts sector is an investment in young people, communities and a more inclusive, innovative society.
