There’ve been busloads of asylum seekers arriving at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium – as “The Big O” is being transformed into a refugee housing centre – to deal with a higher than expected number of people – crossing at the American border in recent months.
Jean-Pierre Fortin is the president of the union representing Canada Border Services agents.
He says there’s been an explosion of people crossing illegally – and his members are exhausted from the long hours it takes to process all the unexpected arrivals.
Fortin also says – so far the agency doesn’t have any short-term solutions.
