Following more than eight years in prison for a Las Vegas hotel robbery, O.J. Simpson was granted parole Thursday after successfully stating his case in a televised hearing before a four-member Nevada parole board.

”I’ve done my time.  I’ve done it as well and respectfully as I think anybody can,” the former football, TV and movie star insisted during the more than hour-long hearing.

He’s maintained all along he was only trying to retrieve sport memorabilia items that were his and never meant to hurt anyone, adding he never pointed a gun at anyone nor made any threats.

Following about half-an-hour of deliberations, the four parole commissioners returned to approve his release, citing his lack of prior conviction, the low risk he may commit another crime, his community support and release plans, which include moving to Florida.

”Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Simpson quietly said as he lowered his head on his chest with relief.
