MIXED REACTION TO OMAR KHADR'S SETTLEMENT, APOLOGY

The federal Liberals will apologize and give former Guantanamo Bay prisoner, Toronto-born Omar Khadr $10.5-million, a government source confirms.

He was 15 when he was captured by American troops following a gun battle in Afghanistan that resulted in the death of Sgt. Christopher Speer.
Human rights groups such as Amnesty International Canada welcome the reports.
Alex Neve told Zoomer Radio’s ”Fight Back” with guest host Jane Brown, Khadr deserves financial compensation.
“He went through human rights violations for close to 15 years.”
The National Council of Canadian Muslims also feels it’s ”long overdue”.
Alberta Tory Leader Jason Kenney, immigration minister under Stephen Harper, calls the reported deal ”odious”.
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has started an online petition, calling the settlement ”offensive to many Canadians”.
