GERI ALLEN DEAD AT 60

Cancer has claimed the life of influential jazz pianist Geri Allen who was often referred to as the female Herbie Hancock of the keys.
Allen was born in Flint, Michigan and educated in the Detroit Public School system.  She was an Associate Professor of Music and the Director of the Jazz Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh.
Allen died yesterday in Philadelphia at the age of 60.
