MR. HOME HARDWARE DEAD AT 95

The co-founder of Canada’s Home Hardware chain has died at the age of 95.

Walter Hachborn and two partners started a co-operative for independently owned and operated hardware stores back in 1964 in St. Jacobs, Ontario.

Today the chain has nearly 1,100 stores, including Home Hardware, Home Building Centre and Home Furniture outlets.

Hachborn was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2000.  He received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal 3 years later
