The end of the line is approaching – for fare collectors at the TTC.
As the full rollout of the Presto system of payment chunders along – heading for completion by the end of next year – ticket booths will be abandoned.
Instead, there’ll be roaming customer service agents, able to provide guidance to customers – in a way that was nearly impossible from behind the thick collector’s glass wall.
A recent TTC report indicates that the collection booths could be phased out as early as next July – but delays with Presto likely mean that they will stay-put until the end of 2017.
Changes to TTC stations are estimated at $50 million to accommodate the move.
The bulk of the cost is related to upgrades in communication technology and security camera coverage.
