ECONOMIC ADVISERS SET TO HUDDLE WITH MINISTER MORNEAU

The head of the team of advisers, recruited by Ottawa to try to come up with a plan to get Canada’s economy out of its rut is slated to meet Wednesday in Toronto with Finance Minister Bill Morneau.

Dominic Barton, who heads the group of 14 business and academic leaders, is global managing director of the consulting firm McKinsey & Co.

He says they’ve been looking at possible solutions like immigration to address the looming impact of the country’s aging population on the workforce as well as ways to attract more private capital to invest in infrastructure that’ll, in turn, boost productivity.
Barton also says he and his colleagues are focusing on job training aimed at helping workers adapt to the increasing amount of automation in the workplace.
