The province is planning to start licensing home inspectors as part of legislation that could be passed as early as this fall.
The aim is to establish minimum standards for home inspections, including the type of information inspectors would be required to disclose to home buyers.

The bill would also establish a body to administer and enforce the licensing and regulations.
Currently, they’re governed by a patchwork of different industry organizations, each with their own training programs and accreditation standards, although those groups have urged the province to introduce rules that would apply to all home inspectors.
The more than 1,500 inspectors are one of the only professionals involved in a real-estate transaction not provincially regulated, even though close to seven in 10 homes sold each year are inspected.
