A mansion at 450 Pape Avenue in Toronto that sits empty most of the time has won a new lease on life as a movie set, much to the chagrin of some neighbours.

The building has a heritage designation.  It’s known as “Cranfield House” and was built for William and Caroline Harris in the late 1800’s.  Harris immigrated from England and established a meat processing factory in 1869 which later became part of Canada Pakers.  In 1930, the Harris family transferred the house to the Salvation Army and the building became a social aid centre for 75 years.

Since April of this year the property has seen more than ten film shoot, the most recent being a movie adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “It.”

Nick Sherban, who lives next door, says crews trespass on his property, smoke in front of his house and run noisy generators at all hours.

Toronto’s film office says it’s working with the producers to ensure disruptions to the neighbour hood are kept to a minimum .
