You can finally watch the cellphone video that set off the biggest political scandal to likely ever hit Toronto – the Rob Ford crack cocaine video.
Rob Ford
The late mayor tried to deny it ever existed.
The release of the video Thursday followed a Toronto judge’s decision to drop a extortion charge against Alexander ”Sandro” Lisi, Ford’s former friend and driver.
The court heard the Crown had reached a resolution with Lisi’s lawyers last month and then asked the judge to withdraw the charge that was originally laid in relation to efforts made to retrieve the video made in 2013.
News of the video set off a year of controversy during which Ford repeatedly denied smoking crack cocaine.
He eventually admitted to substance abuse and checked into a rehab facility and resumed his bid for re-election.
But in September 2014, Ford withdrew from the mayoral race, announcing he’d been diagnosed with cancer.
His brother Doug took his place on the ballot but lost to John Tory.
Rob Ford ran for his old Etobicoke city council seat and was elected.
He died in March of this year.
Here’s a link to the Toronto Star website if you’d like to see/hear the video.
