The heirs of Ed Townsend tell British pop singer ”Let’s Get It On” in court.
The infringement lawsuit filed in U.S. federal court in New York alleges Ed Sheeran’s 2016 Grammy-winning song ”Thinking Out Loud,” rips off the melody, harmony and rhythm elements from Marvin Gaye’s 1973 hit.
Towsend co-wrote ”Let’s Get It On” with Gaye, who died in 1984.
Townsend died in 2003.
Gaye’s family last year won $7.4-million after successfully suing Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams for copyright infringement over their single ”Blurred Lines”.
Sheeran’s facing another copyright lawsuit.
The writers of the 2009 song ”Amazing” allege his song ”Photograph” copies theirs ”note-for-note”.
