Ontario’s electoral office says the Ontario Liberal party has raised more than $11 million over the past year, vastly more than the provincial P.C.’s and N.D.P.
With Premier Kathleen Wynne committed to changing fund raising rules in the province. the opposition parties are crying foul. N.D.P. Leader Andrea Horwath finds it curious that after their coffers are filled, the Liberals are changing the fundraising rules. She calls the timing suspect and suggests it will be much harder to compete if the governing Liberals ban corporate and union donations.
But Premier Wynne denies she’s rushing the changes through because her party’s coffers are flush. She says despite the $11 million dollars in donations, the party remains some $4 million dollars in debt.
