Canada’s biggest film and TV awards have a new boss.

Beth Janson has been appointed chief executive officer of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, replacing outgoing CEO Helga Stephenson.

Janson is a Montreal native – and the former executive director of the Tribeca Film Institute.

Before that, she was the programming director of the Newport International Film Festival and worked in the programming department of HBO Documentary Films.

As head of the academy, Janson will oversee its mandate to celebrate and promote homegrown film, television and digital media. Its marquee event is the annual Canadian Screen Awards.

Janson assumes the post on June 1st.
