A lavish interpretation of Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida has won recording of the year at the BBC Music Magazine Awards.

The opera was conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano and was captured over six days in Italy last February.  It is one of the first full-length studio recordings of an opera in almost a decade.

BBC Music Magazine called the recording “a major triumph.”.
