Long time Toronto District School Board Trustee, and former Chair Sheila Ward has died.
She served as Chair from 2003 to 2007, and represented the area of Toronto-Centre Rosedale since its inception in 1997.
She first became a trustee with the old Toronto Board of Education in 1991.
Prior to joining the TDSB, Ward was a high school teacher near Hamilton for 4 years, as well as serve as the executive director of the Regina and Kitchener-Waterloo YWCA’s.
She also worked as editor for the Regina Leader Post, and as a freelancer for the CBC, CTV and the Toronto Star.
Toronto City Councillor Pam McConnell called Ward a dedicated civil servant.
Ward’s health had been failing in recent years. Flags at schools across the city will be flown at half-staff in her memory for the rest of the week.
