A 47 year old Alberta man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a flight attendant aboard an Air Canada flight early Wednesday.

The incident occurred on a plane headed for Delhi, India over the Atlantic Ocean, when police claim Jaksaran Sidhu became belligerent and struck a flight attendant.

The pilot then turned the plane back and landed at Pearson International airport where Sidhu was taken into Peel police custody and the attendant received medical attention.

Sidhu is facing charges of assault causing bodily harm, endangering the safety of an aircraft and two counts of mischief.

The plane resumed its flight just after noon on Wednesday.
