As of today, you can now board any TTC streetcar by getting on at the rear doors, in addition to the front doors, provided you have proof of payment.
A valid Presto card, transfer or metropass allows you all-door boarding.
“If you pay by token, cash or ticket, you do what you normally do, enter through the front door,” says TTC spokesman Brad Ross.
He says there will be random spot checks by inspectors in an effort to deter fare cheats. Fines range from $235 to $425 for riders caught without proof of payment. Ross also says allowing proof of payment riders to board at all doors will speed up service at busy stops and improve traffic congestion.
The change comes as the TTC prepares to activate Presto readers across the streetcar fleet. Previously, all door boarding was limited to only a few streetcar routes.
