Nearly two years after a fire that killed 32 people at a seniors’ home in Quebec, the Crown issued a statement Monday, saying no criminal charges will be laid.

In January of 2014, a home in L’Isle Verte, Quebec caught fire causing the deaths of nearly 3 dozen residents.

The Crown looked into the case, after a report from the Quebec Coroners office, citing a lack of training and of emergency plans as some of the reasons so many people died.

The co-owner of the home rejected responsibility for the fatal blaze. He said the coroner unjustly targeted the managers and staff at the Residence du Havre.
