The federal cabinet has formed a sub-committee whose job is to fulfill the government’s promise to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by year’s end.
The chair is Health Minister Jane Philpott – MP for Markham-Stouffville.
Joining her on the committee is Heritage Minister Melanie Joly, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, Foreign Affairs Minister Stephane Dion and Democratic Institutions Minister Maryam Monsef.
Each has a portfolio that touches on the issue.
Philpott has worked with refugees in Africa while Monsef is a refugee from Afghanistan.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister John McCallum says the government’s still committed to bringing the refugees here by the end of the year but wants to do it right.
The Markham-Thornhill riding MP says every option’s on the table.
Air Canada has already offered to help transport refugees.
