It’s life in prison – for two men found guilty of terrorism charges -after plotting to derail a Via passenger train between New York and Toronto.

And after being sentenced – one of them told the judge that the sentence means nothing to him.

Chiheb Esseghaier leaned back in the prisoner’s box and crossed his arms as the judge read out his decision in a Toronto courtroom today.

Esseghair and Raed Jaser were convicted in March.

The judge was asked by a court appointed lawyer to postpone sentencing and order Esseghaier to be hospitalized and treated for a mental illness – but he rejected that – saying he was skeptical of the schizophrenia diagnosis from two forensic psychiatrists.

Justice Michael Code says life imprisonment is appropriate – since neither of the men have renounced their extremists beliefs or expressed remorse.
