Two TTC senior managers have been fired because of the over-budget and delayed Spadina subway extension.

Sameh Ghaly and Andy Bertolo were both long term executives and were let go yesterday.

TTC CEO Andy Byford confirmed in memo to staff yesterday that he had made a change in leadership within the engineering, construction and expansion group.

TTC chair Josh Colle says there is no excuse for the delays and cost over runs.

“We can’t…literally and figuratively afford to keep having projects…steer off course like this,” Colle explained to the CBC, “there has to be a level of accountability.”

But city councillor Joe Mihevc wonders if the firing of these two managers is simply a cover up for bigger problems.

“Both people have been long and trusted servants of the TTC and of this city,” Mihevc said.

A report two weeks ago revealed the six stop extension from Downsview Station to the Vaughan Metropolitian Centre was about $400-million over its $2.6 billion budget.

Mayor John Tory suggested last week someone would be held to account for the over-budget and delayed subway extension.
