There was another mayoral debate last night, but the big news came during the scrum after the event.

Toronto Star City Hall reporter Jennifer Pagliaro asked Doug Ford several questions, including some about his campaign financing.

Ford refused to answer any of Pagliaro’s questions. As he was walking away from the scrum, he was heard to make a derogatory and sexist remark.

A Star photographer and a CTV producer both confirmed hearing Ford make the remark.

When she heard about it, Olivia Chow demanded Ford apologize. She called the slur “gross and disgusting.”

John Tory said it was completely unacceptable from someone who wants to be mayor of Toronto.

Several hours later, Ford issued a written statement. He admitted he made the remark, but says he was talking about someone else.

Ford, Chow and Tory will meet for another debate today. The election is now four days away.
