The House of Commons has unanimously supported giving honorary Canadian citizenship to Pakistani teenager and co-winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, Malala Yousafzai.
It comes on the eve of Yousafzai’s visit to Canada to participate in a women’s rights event – in Toronto.
Yousafzai was targeted by Taliban assassins after becoming an outspoken advocate for her right to attend classes.
She has since gone on to become an international spokesperson on women’s issues.
The Conservatives announced their intention to make her an honorary Canadian citizen – in last year’s throne speech.
