Hundreds of thousands who live near power plants in Ontario will have to be given supplies of anti-radiation pills.

That’s an order from Canada’s nuclear regulator.

Right now, stockpiles of potassium iodide pills are kept in pharmacies and community centres for those who live with 10-kilometres of the Bruce, Darlington and Pickering stations.

But the Nuclear Safety Commission wants them distributed to everyone within that zone by December next year.

Ontario Power Generation says it’ll work with municipalities, the province and federal regulator to determine how best to do that.
