Up until now, the 93-year old woman, who’s run Mississauga the past 36 years, has kept her cards close to her vest when it came to indicating who she’d like to see succeed her.
Then last night Friday evening at a fundraiser for one of the main mayoral candidates, hosted by leaders of Mississauga’s Chinese community, Hazel McCallion said, ”I say to you, look at the programs – you have to – of both candidates, the chief candidates that are running, and I have every confidence that when you review it, that you will vote for Bonnie Crombie.”
Her main opponent is Steve Mahoney, a former councillor and former MPP.
A Mahoney campaign spokesperson says Crombie is drawing a fine line in highlighting the mayor’s support for her campaign, while not explicitly saying McCallion endorses her candidacy.
