One in ten Canadians, who need to be admitted to hospital have to wait, on average, more than 28 hours for a bed – especially older Zoomers.
That according to a new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information that also found one in four seniors who visit an ER need to be admitted.
The authors say chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart failure and pneumonia are the leading conditions for which people are admitted.
The report also found diabetes, high blood pressure and arthritis are more prevalent among older Canadian and often require hospitalization.
However, the 2013/14 report also shows nine out of ten who visited an ER were in and out in 7.5 hours or less.
