The Scotiabank Giller Prize has not only upped its prize purse – it has added one more author to the shortlist.

Instead of the expected five finalists, there have been six writers announced as finalists for the $100,000 top prize this year. Each finalist also receives $10,000.

The shortlist was selected from a longlist of 12 books. There were 161 titles submitted from 63 publishing houses across the country.

The finalists are:

– David Bezmozgis for The Betrayers (HarperCollins Canada)

– Frances Itani for Tell (HarperCollins Canada)

– Sean Michaels for Us Conductors (Random House Canada)

– Heather ONeill for The Girl Who Was Saturday Night (HarperCollins Canada)

– Miriam Toews for All My Puny Sorrows (Knopf Canada)

– Padma Viswanathan for The Ever After of Ashwin Rao (Random House Canada)

The Scotiabank Giller Prize will be awarded on November 10th.
