Toronto General Hospital is testing a patient for the Ebola virus.
The unidentified person recently traveled to Nigeria, and developed a fever on returning to Toronto.
University Health Network spokesman Dr. Michael Gardam says they are not releasing any details on the patient. And he says it’s unlikely the person has Ebola. But he says a combination of symptoms and the individual’s travel plans made the tests mandatory.
Gardam says medical personnel still aren’t taking any chances when they treat the patient. They are wearing respirators, their entire bodies are covered, they are keeping blood samples to a minimum, and they are keeping the patient isolated.
Blood samples are being sent to the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for testing. Results are expected today.
