The federal health minister insists the risk of the deadly virus coming to this country are extremely low.
Rona Ambrose says, ”Canada Border Services Agency will continue to exercise increased screening of passengers entering Canada from infected countries. Through our national microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg, we are extremely well connected with provincial labs to ensure Canada is ready to detect and respond quickly if necessary.”
And the head of the Public Health Agency of Canada says it’s worked with Canada Border Services Agency and with airlines to advise them on what to do about passengers who appear to be ill while flying or when trying to enter the country.
Hospitals are also on alert to lookout for possible cases among those who’ve been to West Africa.
Meanwhile, we’re learning more about the man in Dallas who’s isolated in hospital with the virus.
Such as his name.
His sister says Thomas Eric Duncan told officials the first time he went to hospital last Friday that he was visiting from Liberia.
He was sent home with antibiotics but returned two days later and was admitted.
A doctor at the hospital confirms a nurse asked Duncan on his first visit whether he’d been in an area affected by Ebola but that the information was not ”fully communicated” throughout the medical team.
