Several developments at the NATO Summit in Wales this morning:

Canada has announced it is sending dozens of military advisers to Iraq to assist in the battle against Islamic State. Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that the advisers will work with the US and Kurdish fighters to rein in the al-Qaeda splinter group.

At the same time, NATO has announced it is setting plans in motion for a rapid-response force. The new policy would enable the Alliance to mobilize thousands of troops, along with air and sea forces, in as little as 48 hours.

The new plan is a response to the ongoing threat by Russia in Eastern Ukraine.
