Two Broadway legends are getting together for a chat tonight.
Carol Channing will be interviewed onstage tonight in Provincetown, Massachusetts, by Tommy Tune. The two have been friends since Tune was 17 and dancing in the chorus of a show Channing was starring in in Dallas. She became his mentor.
No performances are planned. But the two will share stories about Channing’s long and storied career. She won a Tony Award for her starring role in Hello Dolly and returned to play Dolly Levi a total of four times. She also starred in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance in Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Tommy Tune is a nine-time Tony winner for such shows as My One and Only, Grand Hotel, and The Will Rogers Follies. He also did the movie version of Hello Dolly, but Channing didn’t.
There’s word the conversations may be continued at other locations.
