Zoomers, who are overweight – especially women – and have arthritis in their knees, tend to report more pain than those who are slimmer but suffer from similar issues.

The health records of nearly five-thousand between the ages of 45 and 79 years  were studied.

Researchers say even though osteoarthritis is a progressive disease and its effects are irreversible, losing weight should help reduce pain.

The study says doctors should consider suggesting that to patients since it may jump start a healthy lifestyle.

The findings appear in the journal ”Rheumatology”.
