The leaders of eight of Toronto’s major arts organizations have taken the unusual step of publishing a joint manifesto outlining what the arts community hopes to see in the next mayor.

The document is signed by the heads of the Canadian Opera Company, the Toronto Symphony, Soulpepper, the National Ballet, the AGO, the ROM, TIFF, and Harbourfront.

They say the next mayor has to be a team builder with a strategic vision, inclusiveness, passion, and fiscal prudence.

They add that the mayor and next council need to commit to building a strong cultural sector as a foundation for a vibrant, creative economy with healthy and productive citizens.

They are not endorsing any candidate, although team building and inclusiveness have not been hallmarks of Rob Ford’s time in office.

The manifesto is published on the websites of the eight organizations.

You can read the entire manifesto here.
