Toronto Mayor Rob Ford returned to City Hall with a much anticipated statement to reporters, city councillors and residents.

He began by saying for a long time he resisted the idea of getting help.

”Like a lot of people dealing with substance abuse I was in complete denial.”

Ford said he’d convinced himself he did not have a problem.

”When I look back on some of the things I have said and some of the things I did when I was using, I’m ashamed, embarrassed and humiliated.’

Appearing to fighting back tears during his prepared statement, the mayor said the experts at the rehab facility ”saved my life,” that he’s committed to living clean, and realized recovery will be long.

Ford ended by thanking the people of the city for their understanding and continued support, adding he looks forward to serving ”you for many, many more years.”
