Elizabeth Dowdeswell is a long time civil servant, whose career spanned provincial, federal and international borders.

She served as a deputy minister of culture and youth in Saskatchewan.

Later, 68-year old Dowdeswell was assistant deputy minister at Environment Canada.

She’s also been executive director of the UN Environment Program.

Dowdeswell replaces David Onley, who’s the longest serving lieutenant governor in 68 years.

He’ll remain in the post until she’s formally installed.

No word yet on when that will be.
