Commuters who take the Gardiner Expressway into downtown Toronto from the west are gradually getting used to the snarled traffic from the long-term lane closures.

But, as of this morning, there’s another headache to contend with. The Lakeshore is going to see intermittent closures over the next couple of months.

There will be disruptions on the westbound lanes in three sections: Yonge Street to west of Rees Street; Bathurst Street to British Columbia Road; and Parkside Drive to Windermere Avenue.

They will take place from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Then the eastbound Lakeshore from British Columbia Road to
Spadina will be closed off and on from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Steve Buckley is the General Manager of the city’s Transportation Services. He says the work was planned long before the Gardiner closures. Underground power lines and gas lines need to be upgraded before the Lakeshore is paved for the Pan Am Games. That work is expected to begin in July, but will happen overnight.

Buckley says the closures have been timed to avoid disrupting rush hour wherever possible.
