Two members of Pussy Riot will be attending a literary celebration that already has an impressive guest list – including Toni Morrison, Salman Rushdie and Robert Caro.
Maria Alyokhina and Nadya Tolokonnikova are expected to be at the PEN American Center Literary Gala on May 5th at the Museum of Natural History.
The event will see Rushdie and Twitter CEO Dick Costolo receiving awards from PEN, the non-profit organization that has been a longtime advocate for free expression.
Members of Pussy Riot, the Russian punk band, have been jailed and arrested on several occasions – for protesting the oppressive rule of the Russian government and criticizing President Vladimir Putin.
