Health Canada says it will blow the whistle on medical marijuana users – if they don’t formally declare that they’ve disposed of their homegrown stashes.
Strict new federal rules have brought in that requirement and the health department says it will share relevant information with police.
That includes names and addresses of those who ignore the new system.
Currently, people are issued licences to cultivate marijuana for personal use to help ease painful symptoms.
But starting April 1st the government plans to allow only select commercial producers to grow marijuana under “secure and sanitary conditions” for distribution to medically approved patients by mail.
Health Canada says anyone other than a licensed producer growing marijuana after that date – will be breaking the law.
