Ukraine’s prime minister is in Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Barack Obama today. Arseniy Yatsenyuk is calling on the West to defend Ukraine against Russia.  Moscow has sent troops into Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, and people there vote Sunday on whether to join Russia.  Last night, U.S Congress voted unanimously in favour of condemning Russia’s military incursion in Ukraine.

Here in Canada, an effort contines to raise $1-million for the victims of last month’s violent crackdown on demonstrators in Kyiv.  Rayissa Palmer is the lead fundraiser with the Euromaidan Canada Committee.  She tells Zoomer Media News, “we’re providing funds directly to medical groups that are on the ground in Ukraine that are going to attend to the wounded and then we’re also helping to provide relief assistance and services, food, there’s fuel that’s not getting there so they can’t even drive the ambulances and trucks to pick up people, regular delivery of food are not being made, so we’re providing food and water as well.”

Tax deductible donations can be made online here or at any of the 5 big Canadian banks.
