it’s a Burtynsky bonanza – for Vancouver.
Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky is donating 34 works to the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Burtynsky is renowned for his stunning images – highlighting the incursion of humans into the natural world.
The VAG says the gift will bring it’s total collection of Burtynsky’s large-format photos – to 44.
The St.Catharines-born, Toronto-based photographer’s career has been spent capturing massive industrial sites, the oilsands, mines, ship-breaking yards and waterways – around the world.
Burtynsky unveiled his directorial debut, the documentary “Watermark,” at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. Last month the film which he co-directed with Jennifer Baichwal — won the $100,000 Best Canadian Film Award from the Toronto Film Critics Association.
The VAG’s 44 works will be on show during the gallery’s upcoming exhibition “A Terrible Beauty: Edward Burtynsky,” which runs March 1 to May 26.
