Toronto Police have launched their latest campaign against distracted drivers. It’s called “that text or call could end it all”. It’s the latest attempt by Police to end cell phone use while in traffic. This latest campaign involves plain clothes officers and a tricked out hearse catching drivers, some of whom were stopped at red lights. Toronto Police Constable Clint Stibbe says ignorance of the law is no defense. If you are driving, you must be stopped and off the road, in order to use a cell phone or send a text message. Toronto police have laid more than 50 thousand charges since the legislation came into force in 2011. Distracted driving is now the largest, single cause of serious injury and fatal accidents in Ontario.
