Imagine being able to hop off the TTC on your way to work to pick up a coffee or run an errand, then get back on without having to pay a second fare.
It’s common practice in many transit systems aroudn the world. And it may finally be coming to Toronto.
A report to the TTC is recommending allowing riders to pay once, receive a transfer, and be able to use that transfer for multiple trips within a certain time-frame, 90 minutes or two hours.
TTC spokesman Brad Ross says the plan would cost the commission up to $20-million a year. It means the commission would have to make the shortfall part of its 2015 budget, and find the extra funding from the various levels of government.
The idea is being suggested as part of the rollout of the Presto fare card that is expected to start later this year. The TTC board will consider the report next week.
