Toronto music lovers may soon have more input – when it comes to which performers may be coming to our city.

That’s because city council has endorsed the creation of a new advisory group – to guide the economic and cultural development of Toronto’s music industry.

Council has also endorsed terms of reference for the Austin – Toronto Music City Alliance agreement.

Austin describes itself as The Live Music Capital of the World.

The Texas city’s mayor, Lee Leffingwell has been talking with Mayor Rob Ford about the music industry in both cities since Canadian officials visited Austin earlier this year.

Toronto city Councillor Michael Thompson is Chair of The Economic Development Committee and Co – Chair of the Music Advisory Council.

He says the Advisory Council will help strengthen and expand all sectors of Toronto’s music industry and will play a pivotal role in defining and developing the Austin – Toronto Music City Alliance.
