Premier Kathleen Wynne is set to meet with Toronto’s Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly at noon today in her Queen’s Park office.  Kelly says he plans to raise a “wide range of issues”.  The Premier has decided to bypass Mayor Rob Ford after he was stripped of most of his powers following his admission of smoking crack cocaine.  This news of today’s meeting is not sitting well with the Mayor and his brother, Councillor Doug Ford, who is said to have been angry when he first learned of the meeting.  “There’s a lot of things we need to talk about with the Premier, and obviously she’s not interested in speaking to the democratically elected mayor of the city.” Councillor Ford also quipped that “it’s going to be a meeting of two unelected officials running the largest city and the largest province.”

Wynne came to power this past February after being selected Liberal leader by party members following the resignation of her predecessor Dalton McGuinty.  A source in the premier’s office says today’s meeting with Norm Kelly is a get to know you chat and to find out whether city council is operating as it should be.
