Carol Burnett will receive the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for American Humour this Sunday. The 80-year-old T-V comedy legend is probably best known for her long-running variety show, which won 25 Emmys. But she says if one C-B-S executive had his way, the show never would have been on in the first place. Burnett says he told her, “you know, variety is a man’s game. It’s Sid Caesar, it’s Milton Berle, it’s Jackie Gleason, it’s Dean Martin. He said we’ve got this great sitcom we want you to do called Here’s Agnes. I mean, can you imagine?”
Carol Burnett is the first woman to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour. She says with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler again hosting the Golden Globes in 2014 and 2015, ” it’s a great time for women in comedy.”
