Trumpeter Alison Balsom has become the first British woman to win artist of the year at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards.
Balsom collected the award, regarded as the most important of the classical music world, at a ceremony in central London.
It follows a successful year for the Classic Brit winner who performed at the Proms and at the Latitude festival.
80-year old guitarist Julian Bream, who was also a member of this year’s judging panel, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.
