The Canadian-made Broadway hit  “The Drowsy Chaperone” is on the way to becoming  a movie musical – with Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush  slated to play the lead.

Screenwriter and director Don McKellar, who co-created the Tony-winning musical confirms that Rush hopes to reprise the part of  “man in chair”on film.

He first played the role  (of  the  musical-obsessed, cardigan-wearing narrator)  in Australia earlier this year.

McKellar says  he hopes “The Drowsy Chaperone” will  make it to the screen in less time than it took to get to Broadway. The  show made it’s debut  in 1998 at the Rivoli in Toronto and opened in New York – eight years later.
