The Oreo Borealis and the Tortoise Torte are all that is left in the Tim Horton’s “Dueling Donuts competition after weeks of tasting, pondering and voting by a panel of judges. The final two survived from about 63,000 entries which were whittled down to 8 in July with the help of “Beverly Hills, 90210” actor Jason Priestley. The Oreo Borealis is reinvention of the classic Nabisco cookie and is the creation of London, Ontario’s Jason Flannery. The Tortoise Torte, a chocolate-caramel-pecan concoction was dreamed up by Toronto’s Andrew Shepherd. Voting for the finals will end Sunday. The winner to be named Monday. The winning inventor gets $10,000 and it’s expected the winning doughnut will be recreated in chain’s stores across the country.
