A festival dedicated to the works of George Frederic Handel has been cancelled because of flooding.
Handel’s opera Alessandro was one of the works on the program for the Handel Festival in the composer’s birthplace, Halle, this year.
The festival has been held in Halle since 1922. This year’s edition was to begin tomorrow and run until June 16th.
But over recent weeks much of central Europe has been badly flooded, and some parts of Halle are under seven metres of water. So the festival will not be held this year.
